Dinner: We had Chana Dahl Crockpot soup for dinner - I put it on in the morning, unsure how a lentil-type soup would go down with the family, as they're not lentil fans. But these soft yellow lentils seemed more like eating sweetcorn kernels (probably the soaking overnight with baking soda to break down the coating helped there), and the soup was a hit. I had a bag of frozen diced onion I used, a couple of cups of strong home made chicken stock which helped flavour it, and a bag of organic cooked chicken (from our own chickens) in the freezer. It was really yummy. It didn't really need an accompaniment. I had two pieces of gluten free toast with the soup, and ate two mugs of soup, and was very satisfied.
Lunch: I cleaned out one of the freezers yesterday, and found a couple of gluten-free loaves of bread left over from when I was gluten free a while back. My daughter mentioned at lunch time she really wanted some bacon on toast, so I mentioned they were there. Of course, then *I* wanted bacon on cream cheese covered toast too, so that's what we had, and I also ate a medium sized banana. I'm probably not going to make a habit of buying gluten-free bread (not really good for us, and besides, it's hideously expensive at about $8-$9 for a very small loaf), but since we already have these ones, we may as well use them up. I also filled an insulated bag with now un-needed frozen items to give away. Most pastry, buns, bacon bones and some ice cream.
How I feel: Fine! Looking forward to weighing myself tomorrow and seeing what changes the first week has wrought. Planning to add in daily exercise from tomorrow on - this past week has been nothing but pouring rain, and so I haven't been for a walk or done any other exercise. Time for that to change, regardless of the weather.
It really hasn't been hard to go sugar and gluten free; there has been no real cravings, my moods have been mostly fine so far. The first couple of days were hard in terms of worrying that the kids would feel they were being well enough fed, but apart from that it has been pretty easy, and I feel good about it.
