I have decided I'm going to have to go lower-salicylate as well as sugar and gluten free. My salicylate intolerance seems to have reared it's annoying head again and is partly what's preventing me sleeping (this is not surprising considering the poor diet I've been consuming, which will have had an effect on my internal systems). Salicylates are part of a plant's immune defence system, and are potentially found in varying levels in most things that come from a plant - herbs and spices, fruit and veges, nuts and seeds. Obviously these things are an important part of my diet, so I will have to chose the ones with the lowest levels of salicylates. That means most strong spices are out, caffeinated tea and coffee are out, and I should limit my intake of tomatoes, zucchini, broccoli, almonds & mushrooms, among others, at least for now until my body has a chance to heal again. I'm not going to go to a completely low-salicylate diet for now, but try to keep it moderate or lower.
Breakfast: Buckwheat Granola with half a banana and a dollop of Greek yoghurt and organic milk Lunch: Bacon and eggs Snacks: none. When you eliminate the blood sugar swings caused by wheat and sugar, you simply aren't as hungry and don't constantly want food. Dinner: Sweet Potatoes to Die For and a salad of mesclun mix, avocado and hummus |
Exercise: none, unfortunately. After less than an hour's sleep the previous night and waking to another heavy frost, I put it off, and, of course, just never got to it.
How I feel: tired after no sleep the night before. Otherwise fine. After a low-moderate salicylate day, though, I slept a lot better.
